In memory of the “Spiderman” Flower Ray

Even at TopStingray, death of stingrays can happen…

Today, TopStingray mourns the death of a great stingray – the “SpiderMan” Flower Ray. She came to us around 2 months ago. Although SpiderMan was born handicapped, she was different and unique. She was a fighter, standing up against weakness and trying her best all the time.

We tried saving her with the aid of medicines, vitamins, even to the extent of attaching a staff to do one on one care for her. But alas, her life was drawn out from her as we all saw her drift away.

It pains us to see a stingray so special and unique just move on to the other world. But we all hope that she would find happiness in the world beyond.

Flower Ray Potamotrygon schroederi

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

Topstingray has a one of kind feshwater stingray to share. Our Potamotrygon schroederi Flower Ray has given birth to one of the strangest looking freshwater stingrays we have ever come across. This is the same abnormality seen in other “Batman” stingrays of different species. However our Flower Ray is not the result of inbreeding, both the parents were wild caught and are 100% not related to each other.

This is probably the first “Batman” Flower Ray ever produced be us. The Topstingray team jokingly nicknamed this very strange Flower Ray as “Spiderman”. We will be posting more photos and videos of this unique Flower Ray.

Topstingray brings you an update on how our Flower Ray pups are developing. These Flower Ray pups are now three weeks old and are doing very well. Flower Rays are one of the most difficult fresh water stingrays to breed, this gives us tremendous pride in what we do.
