Potamotrygon Leopoldi Black Diamond
Potamotrygon Leopoldi black diamond is arguably one of the most stunning freshwater stingray species of all, but they come hand in hand with high prices. A fully grown adult Potamotrygon leopoldi makes for a jaw-dropping sight. Under the IBAMA regulations exports from Brazil are now illegal, although captive bred rays are available on occasion. This makes the price even more expensive as a result.
Potamotrygon Leopoldi "BlackDiamond" belong to the Leopoldi genus of the Potamotrygonidae family. BlackDiamonds are considered to be one of the top class freshwater stingrays available. Wild caught BlackDiamond stingrays first appeared in the ornamental fish market approximately 10 years ago at a stunning price of 10,000 - 20,000 American dollars (USD) per pair. At that time, supply of these stingrays were extremely limited. Today, wild caught BlackDiamonds are much cheaper than before. This is because captive breed BlackDiamonds are becoming increasingly available in the ornamental fish market and are much better in terms of the quality of their patterns and health. In addition, wild caught stingrays are associated with risks such as the presence of fishing hooks and undetected internal parasites/diseases.
Topstingray believes that BlackDiamonds are one of the best looking of all the stingrays in the Leopoldi family. This makes producing higher
quality BlackDiamonds a top priority for us at Topstingray. Our BlackDiamonds are high quality, with the presence of rim spots underneath their body around the edges as well as supreme white coloration of their patterns. Their patterns range from having spectacularly large spots to the thousand island effect. All of our BlackDiamond rays develop "donuts" or eclipse effect; some may develop more than others. Our Potamotrygon Leopoldi BlackDiamond rays are all 100% pure blood.
Our BlackDiamonds are available in sizes ranging from 5 – 10 inches and are 2 – 6 months old respectively. We have three grades of BlackDiamonds available, A+ / A++ / A+++.
