Hybrid Experimentation on Black Diamond | Tiger | Henlei Stingray

Tuesday, February 19th, 2013

LR Edited - IMG_3937

Today TopStingray would like to share with everyone another result from one of our experimentation hybrid-ing program.

In our quest to be one of the world’s foremost experts of freshwater stingrays, not only do we try to produce some of the best quality Black Diamond stingrays around. Once in awhile, we also experiment with cross breeding and hybrid programs.

This time, the picture shown above is the result of breeding a Henlei Stingray, a Black Diamond Stingray and a Tiger Stingray. We have no idea if this is the first time something like that has ever been done before but we are quite sure that this stingray is certainly a unique one.

With regards to patterns and colorization, it certainly has the patterns and markings of the Tiger stingray, and also the spottings around the rims just like a Black Diamond stingray.

We just wanted to share with everyone in the freshwater stingray world and hope that everyone would be able to share our joy in this.

H1 Super Hybrid F2

Friday, October 5th, 2012

TopStingray would like to share with everyone the H1 Super Hybrid F2!!!

It seemed like only yesterday when we announced the arrival of the H1 Super Hybrid F1.

Well, its already been a year and a half ! How time flies when you are doing things you enjoy.

So feast your eyes on the amazing, Super White H1 Super Hybrid F2.

Notice how intense the level of whiteness is. And how grey the skin of the stingray is. This means that this stingray’s development has not yet reached its full potential.

Until now, we do not know how this stingray would turn out to be, but from our experiences with Super Hybrids, all we can say is HELL YEAH!!!

We just want to share with everyone our pride and joy.

So take a good look at the photo and enjoy.

Saturday, September 29th, 2012

TopStingray has decided to be launching a new range of stock supplies for the year 2013.

These “Super” Black Diamonds will all be guaranteed to be Black and White. They will also hold superior whiteness and health. Attached are some pictures of the upcoming stocks to give everyone an insight of the standard we are talking about.
Notice how the base colour of the stingray is still grey based – meaning there is more room for development. Spots are just simply all over the stingray that it looks more white than black. Note how white the patterns and spots are on the stingray.

So for all those who are looking to get a “Super” looking Black Diamond, please fill out our contact page and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Fallen “Tigress”

Tuesday, September 25th, 2012

Today, TopStingray mourns the death of a close friend…

She was always there when we needed her to be there.

Always hungry…

Always BIG…

We saw how she grew up and turned from a helpless baby into a full fledge adult…

Today morning, when we came to the office. We did our usual routine checks and to our horror!

She was dead…

To find out what happened, we investigated and suspect the cause of death to be abusive mating behavior from the male.

We know many experts would agree with us that during mating, tiger stingrays are very very aggressive but what we did not expect was that it happened overnight!

This was a monitoring mistake on our part and we strongly urge all you stingray lovers out there that whoever is keeping tiger rays to be really careful.

This is truly one of the saddest days in TopStingray history.

Rest in Peace dear friend.

Galaxy P14 X Leopoldi Black Diamond

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Topstingray proudly presents a cross between a Galaxy P14 and a Leopoldi Black Diamond. From what we know, we probably might not be the first to produce such a cross. However, we just want to share this stingray with the global stingray community as an important reference.

The world has long been waiting to see living proof of a cross between the 2 most famous black stingrays in the world. So it is with great pride and joy that Topstingray presents to you “Living proof of a Galaxy P14 X Black Diamond!”

The stingray has a distinct brown base color and solid white patterns which covers the entire disc of the stingray. This stingray is one of the few brown fishes that has pattern and spots so supreme that it astounded us. As this stingray is still young, we are certain that it would develop as how both their parents would. The older they get, the whiter the spots become.

The photo shows a distinct difference between a pure Black Diamond stingray pup and a Galaxy P14 cross Black Diamond stingray pup. We are certain that the Galaxy X Black Diamond would have an unmatched whitening transformation process from birth to maturity. There will be photo updates of this transformation process on our website in the future.

Enjoy the photo!

H4 Super Hybrid

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

It is with great pride and joy that we present the H4 Super Hybrid!

The H4 Super Hybrid has a black base colour and solid white patterns which covers the entire disc of the stingray. The intensity of the pattern increases throughout the transformation process. Doesn’t the patterns on the ray look like corals? Well, we call him “Coral Boy”; just like how we name all our other rays so as to recognize them on a personal level.

The H4 Super Hybrid is yet another “miracle” because it was not a planned part of our breeding program. The exact cross is of course a closely guarded secret we protect with our lives!

Just like the other Super Hybrids; the H4 has an unmatched transformation process from birth to maturity. There will be photo updates of this transformation process on our website soon… stay tuned!

High Quality Pearl Rays

Monday, August 15th, 2011 is very excited to announce that soon our new stocks of high quality Potamotrygon Pearl Rays will be available. We decided to make these high quality Potamotrygon Pearl Rays available due to the large number of requests made from our customers.

At we understand that some of the Potamotrygon freshwater stingrays can be very expensive. These Pearl Rays are perfect for people in the beginner/intermediate level of stingray keeping. These Potamotrygon Pearl Rays are a lot easier to keep and breed; also they are much cheaper compared to Potamotrygon Leopoldi (Black Ray Species). Offering high quality Potamotrygon Pearl Rays is one of the steps to achieving our goal of providing everyone with chance to own a freshwater stingray.

There is now a whole new High Quality Pearl Ray section in our store menu. Be sure head over and check out our stocks while they last.

Tiger X Flower

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011 is proud to introduce our newly born Tiger cross Flower pup. It was born on the 20th May 2011 and is the first Tiger Flower stingray!

We have had success in breeding both pure Tiger Stingrays and Flower Stingrays before. On 17/05/2011, we have successfully crossed a Tiger Stingray with a Flower Stingray, resulting in this truely unquie Tiger Flower stingray. Unfortunately only a single male was born.

It is a well known fact amoung freshwater stingray breeders that Tiger Stingrays are very difficult to breed. Flower stingrays are even more difficult to breed then Tiger stingrays. As you would expsect breeding a cross between Tiger stingray and Flower stingray is say to be near impossible. Reasons for this is still unknown to even expert breeders and to us as well.

Pictured above is a Male pure breed Flower stingray.

Pictured above is a Female pure breed Tiger stingray. Bite marks are still visible from the mating behaviour of our Male pure breed Flower stingray.

This is the results of our successful cross breeding program. Notice the elongated tail, it has Flower pattern in the central region of the back. On the edges however Tiger patterns can be seen!

This fine specimen is a Male Tiger cross Flower stingray, he will not be offered for sale as he was the only one born in this batch.

Potamotrygon Leopoldi BlackDiamond Facts & Knowledge Part I

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

Potamotrygon Leopoldi is the scientific name for BlackDiamond stingrays. The “Black Diamond” part is just made up. It has no scientific value.
There is much confusion and misleading information about Potamotrygon Leopoldi BlackDiamonds out there.
Most commonly asked questions asked about BlackDiamonds consist of, What characteristics makes a common Potamotrygon Leopoldi a BlackDiamond? And / Or how do you tell if its a pure Potamotrygon Leopoldi BlackDiamond?
There are many varied views and opinions on this subject, but there are a few general guidelines that can help you to determine what a BlackDiamond is and what is not.
There are many that are “in between” the classifications of BlackDiamond and common Leopoldi.
To understand the origins of the Leopoldi BlackDiamond stingrays, we must first understand the relationship between Leopoldi Polkadot, Leopoldi Variants and Leopoldi BlackDiamonds.
These three species originated from the same ancestor.
