Topstingray on top of Singapore

June 28th, 2011

The Topstingray team went touring and sightseeing in Singapore during our Aquarama visit. The Singapore Flyer is a must if you’re visiting Singapore for the first time, for those who are not familiar with the Flyer; it is a giant fairest wheel similar to the London Eye.

The ride on the Singapore Flyer last approximately 25 – 30 minutes. While on the Flyer you get a breath taking view of Singapore and you can even see straight across to Malaysia and Indonesia. Take a look at the photos taken during tour on the Singapore Flyer and around Singapore on our Facebook page, link below.

Topstingray @ Aquarama Singapore 2011

June 21st, 2011

Aquarama is one of Asia’s biggest international ornamental fish and accessories exhibitions for the aquatic fish industries and its related sectors. Slated for 26 – 29 May 2011 in Singapore, Aquarama will incorporate Pet Asia 2011 that will add on to the spectacular settings of the dynamic event. Aquarama is an all-encompassing event that offers boundless business opportunities to its targeted market segments.

The Topstingray team had a look around the entire fair and saw a lot of very interesting things which included, all types of equipment related to aquariums and ornamental fish industry. For any aqua hobbyist or member of the ornamental fish industry, Aquarama 2011 is definitely one not to be missed. The best part of the fair for the Topstingray team was meeting all the new people and making many new friends.

The most popular ornamental fish of the exhibition was Arowanas and was the most numerous ornamental fish in the exhibition. Most notable Arowanas were the Red Arows, Silver Arows and Gold Arows. We had the opportunity to visit a few Arowana farms and various others while our team was in Singapore.

As part of Aquarama, there was a farm visit tour organized on the 29th May 2011, which the Topstingray team was fortunately part of. This farm visit tour was the highlight for our team during the Aquarama Singapore trip! Check out our photos taken during our trip to Singapore on our facebook page or click the link below.

Tiger X Flower

May 31st, 2011

Topstingray.com is proud to introduce our newly born Tiger cross Flower pup. It was born on the 20th May 2011 and is the first Tiger Flower stingray!

We have had success in breeding both pure Tiger Stingrays and Flower Stingrays before. On 17/05/2011, we have successfully crossed a Tiger Stingray with a Flower Stingray, resulting in this truely unquie Tiger Flower stingray. Unfortunately only a single male was born.

It is a well known fact amoung freshwater stingray breeders that Tiger Stingrays are very difficult to breed. Flower stingrays are even more difficult to breed then Tiger stingrays. As you would expsect breeding a cross between Tiger stingray and Flower stingray is say to be near impossible. Reasons for this is still unknown to even expert breeders and to us as well.

Pictured above is a Male pure breed Flower stingray.

Pictured above is a Female pure breed Tiger stingray. Bite marks are still visible from the mating behaviour of our Male pure breed Flower stingray.

This is the results of our successful cross breeding program. Notice the elongated tail, it has Flower pattern in the central region of the back. On the edges however Tiger patterns can be seen!

This fine specimen is a Male Tiger cross Flower stingray, he will not be offered for sale as he was the only one born in this batch.

Leopoldi Variant Background

May 21st, 2011

Leopoldi BlackDiamond was introduced into our breeding program 5 years previously. Since then we have experimented with cross breeding “Leopoldi BlackDiamonds” with “Leopoldi Polkadots.”

The results are the “Leopoldi Variants.” After our successful selective breeding program over the last 5 years has produced the Leopoldi Variants of the highest quality, as can be seen in our Leopoldi Variant supply.

It is important not to mistake these Leopoldi Variants for Leopoldi BlackDiamonds.

Although some Leopoldi Variants may seem to look similar to some Leopoldi BlackDiamonds and can be hard to distinguish between the two, the prices are very different between them.

Our freshwater Leopoldi Variants are a cross between Leopoldi BlackDiamond and Leopoldi Polkadots.

The process of selective breeding is by no means an exact science and this is the reason for the many “in between” variants between Leopoldi Polkadots and Leopoldi BlackDiamonds.
